Travel diary: the Pyrenees in a motorhome

Day 1: Perpignan la Catalane and the Mediterranean coast

On board your motor home, leave the A9 motorway to enter the city of the Kings of Mallorca. We advise you to park at the Mas Balande parking lot, if you only want to visit the city center. Not to be missed :

• The magnificent Castillet, an Aragonese work, built in red bricks.
• The Palace of the Kings of Mallorca, in whose courtyard of honor Cali, the singer from the Pyrenees-Orientales, filmed a video.

5 km from the Catalan city, discover the archaeological site of Ruscino. The tourist office offers guided tours of this ancient Roman city.

Then take the road to go along the seaside. Visiting the Pyrenees-Orientales in a motor home means discovering the majestic mountains that extend into the Albères and plunge into the Mediterranean. Pass by Argelès-sur-Mer and enjoy the beach.

Our favorite: the beach of Racou and its authentic area, with its pines and its scents. Don't hesitate to venture to the rocks to discover small wild creeks that are still secret!
 
Continue your tour in the Pyrenees by motorhome, passing by Collioure. Discover its picturesque port and visit its royal castle. Don't forget to stroll through the colorful streets of the Mouré district, nicknamed the City of Painters. Matisse did some frescoes there!

Day 2: the Pyrenees-Orientales in a motor home, to the summits

In the early morning, take the road to climb the summits of the Pyrenees in a motor home, passing by Céret. Did you know that the tradition is to send the first cherries of Céret to the President of the Republic every year?

Visit this atypical village, very popular with artists like Picasso, Braque, Matisse, Chagall, Miro and many others. Its museum of modern art is known the world over.

Are you a thrill seeker? Practice canyoning on the Gourg des Anelles: this abseiling on more than 25 meters will allow you to discover the region in a somewhat sportive way.

Day 3: discover the Bouillouses lake in a motorhome

At the foot of the Carlit massif, at an altitude of 2,000 meters, enjoy the magnificent high mountain landscapes and the Bouillouses lake, a classified natural site.

On the spot, you can choose between climbing, hiking or kayaking. Also take the time to admire the local fauna and flora, while taking a good breath of fresh air. To get there :

• take the chairlift from Font-Romeu (only in summer);
• take the marked trails;
• park your car in a nearby camping-car area.
