What to see around BORDEAUX
Dive into the world of Bordeaux with AVIS explore
As the leading provider of motorhome and fitted van rentals in France since 1979, AVIS explore offers a wide range of motorhomes, available at our Saint-André-de-Cubzac agency, north of Bordeaux. Saint-André-de-Cubzac will be the ideal starting point to discover the beautiful Bordeaux region, enjoying the comfort of a motorhome.
Explore the Splendor of Bordeaux
To start your family road trip through the Bordeaux region, one first stop seems obvious: Bordeaux! The city, capital of the Gironde, is often considered the world capital of wine. It's home to the Cité du Vin, a vast museum presenting the exceptional local wine-making expertise and its history. Located on the banks of the Garonne, it’s also an opportunity to stroll along the river and stop at one of the many terraces. There, you can taste the delicious Bordeaux gastronomy. Between lamproie à la bordelaise, tricandille, puits d’amour or the famous cannelé, you won't regret this charming gourmet break. Then, to discover the city's numerous monuments (there are more than 350 listed as historic monuments!), head to the Center. What's on the agenda? The Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux and its Greek antique style; the Place de la Bourse and its water mirror; the Palais Rohan, an impressive building that today houses the City Hall; and finally, right next to it, the Saint-André cathedral, one of the city's most emblematic monuments.
Venture Around Bordeaux
Bordeaux and its surroundings have many beautiful discoveries in store for your motorhome road trip. The Bordeaux region and its 100,000 hectares of vineyards are globally recognized for 3 main grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. You thus have 4 wine routes to explore: the Médoc wine route; the Graves and Sauternes wine route; the Saint Emilion wine route and the Entre deux Mers wine route.
For ocean lovers, head west to the most beautiful seaside resorts on the coast: Soulac sur mer, the Arcachon basin, and Cap-Ferret. Then, continue south to discover the Landes in a motorhome with Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains, Hossegor, and Capbreton. Not yet familiar with the Basque Country? By continuing along the Atlantic Ocean, you can discover this magnificent region, including the legendary cities of Bayonne, Biarritz, or Saint-Jean-de-Luz.

FAQ
1. Are there electrical outlets in the motorhome?
For your comfort during your trip, your rental motorhome is equipped with electrical outlets, as well as an extension cord and adapter. This allows you to connect your vehicle to an electrical network during your breaks. You can therefore charge your mobile phone and share the most beautiful photos of your adventures with all your loved ones.
2. Can we stop and spend the night anywhere?
In a motorhome, as well as in a van or fitted van, you have the right to stop and park anywhere, like a car. However, if it's to spend the night, you must stop at a motorhome area. Good news, there are more than 7,900 in France! You can easily find them on the net.
3. How does a motorhome shower work? How to recharge water and where is it done?
For the shower in your motorhome to work, once it is full, empty the waste water tank. Then, fill the tank intended for clean water (these are two different tanks). To do this, it's very simple: many gas stations, as well as motorhome service areas, allow you to refuel the motorhome with water. To empty the waste water (shower, sink, etc.), again, head to a motorhome service area. Rest assured: our AVIS explore experts will explain everything before your departure!
4. What is the height of a motorhome? Can we go everywhere with it?
Our rental motorhomes have heights ranging from 2.75 m to 3 m. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the traffic signs indicating a maximum height (tunnels, car parks). The same advice applies to our rental vans and fitted vans (from 2 m to 2.80 m).
5. How does emptying the WC work?
To empty the toilets of your motorhome, go to a motorhome service area or a dumping area. Some gas stations also have the equipment to proceed with a dump. For this, you need to remove the cassette holding the black water from your fitted vehicle and then empty it in the dedicated space within the service area (emptying chemical toilets of a camping in nature is strictly prohibited).
